Windows
Is an installation and intervention project that has its heart in the Cultural Center of Capilla de la Misericordia which runs through the city of Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
It takes the stained glass window (or window) as main topic. One technique widely used by Western painters since the twelfth century that reached its climax during the Gothic period.
The concept of window is reactivated from a contemporary perspective, focused on painting practice and expanding its scope towards the installation and intervention at an early stage, and to the performance and public art in a second.
Installation in Capilla de la Misericordia. Palma. Synthetic enamel spray on 9 acrylic glass panels. 300x200 cm. everyone, aluminum and steel cables. 2010.
First Phase / Indoor. Installation in the Chapel
The glasses have been displaced from the spans of an imaginary building that do not correspond with the windows openings of the chapel, as if they had been brought from a building of a future period, creating a strange sense of temporal lapse, to resettle independently and in frontal position with respect to the main entrance, obtaining a transparent physical presence floating in space influencing it completely and leaving itself away as a support for a passable paint, that allows the viewer to physically tour it.
In its formal treatment, takes on the appearance of a futuristic color fields abstract expressionism where traditional painting has been replaced by spray, which reminds us of the technique used in painting street graffiti, positioning the workpiece between the high and low culture.
Material transparency and color range gives us a subjective gaze that changes and evolves depending on the position we are in the circuit.
Observing the color composition suspended in the space of the Chapel, these stained glass remind us of the graphical interface system of windows we interact with daily on any computer.
The piece talks with the technology, that in the context it is now, acquires a new dimension as a form of worship.
Project sketch. Digital drawing. 2009.
Course of the installation. Indoor. 2010.
Second Phase / Outdoor. Nine parallel interventions in the city Intervention in the Chapel expands its outreach to the urban environment.
The nine-window parts that make up the major work are distributed around the city independently, on different glass surfaces found in several locations around Palma. These heterodox surfaces become improvised ephemeral windows as long as exhibition stays.
Bus shelters, shop windows, building windows, glass facades, different access to shopping malls, car parks, lifts and handrails are performed pictorially, creating a city tour that ends at Capilla de la Misericordia.
Outdoor intervention map, city of Palma. 2010.
Outdoor interventions. Synthetic enamel spray on glass. Variable dimensions. 2010.
First Prize. International Intervention Prize "Projecte Capella". Palma de Mallorca.
